Nebet was perched on a rock at the edge of the forest, chin cupped in her hands. Kem had left for town to buy a few items before they continued on their journey, and now Nebet was left alone to wait for the small green dragon.
Actually, she wasn't alone. Kem had left Lust with her, though he wasn't exactly conversation prone. The strange bird was perched on a tree branch, preening himself with an air of immense dignity.
Nebet sighed. Kem was indeed acting strange. She shivered as the thought of that horrific grin came to mind. Kem was planning something, no doubt about it, but the question was what. Lust always knew what Kem was thinking, Nebet thought, casting a caustic glare at the beast. It didn't even notice, continuing to preen it's ugly feathers.

A rustling came from the bushes nearby, and the small - to dragon standards - dog-sized green dragon crept out of the forest, warily lifting scaled snout to the air and testing the smells. She seemed to think it was safe enough, and Tanania scampered over to the rock Nebet was sitting on, her eyes watching Lust carefully.
It was obvious the baby green dragon didn't really seem fond of the arrowhawk. She let a low growl escape her throat, and she set to kneading the earth with her claws, casting glances around. Though she said nothing to Nebet.
Lys'ifirit said to remain calm. But I feel too...vunerable here, out in the open...

Nebet glanced over at Tanania and smiled. Lust did his version of a grin, flashing his teeth, though his was for reasons other than pleasantries. After a while, Nebet decided to break the silence.
"Kem's going to be back soon. She went to buy a Dragonfang Amulet," Nebet fingered her's, "she said there's no point in travelling with a dragon if you can't speak to it. I can't wait to go back to the desert. You've never been out of the forest? I used to travel with a caravan. We went everywhere. To the sea-it's all this water and it's really pretty, though it's salty and you can't drink it." Nebet stuck out her tongue. "I tried to and got sick. Nobody ever thinks the desert is pretty, but it really is. It is beautiful to those who truly see it, Kem says," Nebet said a bit sulkily, "but I've been lots of places. More than Kem, I think. Did you know that Kem can't use her left arm? I think it was magic, or she got attacked by something. She never talks about it, but-"
"Having fun, Nebet?" Kem asked, appearing quite suddenly behind her. Lust let out a shriek of joy and went sweeping down towards her. Kem held out her arm for the arrowhawk, which was once again eyeing Tanania. Kem snapped something in that strange language she spoke, eyes flashing. The bird turned his gaze regretfully to Nebet. "If I hadn't stopped you from talking, you probably would have told her about your tattoo..." Nebet looked alarmed and made a shushing motion. Kem smiled to herself, turning to Tanania.
"A pleasure to meet you again, Tanania of the Green Scale," she said, bending slightly at the waist. Lust trilled something and turned his tail to her. Kem shrugged.

"I can speak common tongue, you know." Tamania snorted.
She listened to Nebet prattle. "Jeez! Do you ever shut up?" She sulked, and grinned slightly at Kem's return. "Praise Tiamat, you're here. She was going--"
The was interrupted by Kem's words. The green dragonling blinked, and wriggled with a snort. "Anyways. Let's go. I don't like sitting in one place."

Nebet blushed and hung her head in shame. Kem ignored this and hoisted her pack onto her shoulder. With a squawk, Lust fluttered to the other shoulder. Kem winced and pulled back with a sharp intake of breath. Lust hopped off and made an apologetic trill.
"Yes. We'll go now," Kem murmured, turning sharply on her heel. Nebet followed, more subdued than usual.

Tanania followed, quite ready for the jaunt. She licked her scaled lips, wondering what she might encounter in the desert.
<You may move on~>
